A trip back in time to the 90s, even if you’ve never ridden a skateboard.
His single mother is barely present, he cops nothing but incessant blows from his big brother. Thirteen-year-old Stevie drifts through the sun-soaked neighbourhoods of LA, until he falls in with a few slightly older youths. They drink, smoke cigarettes and weed, chat up girls, but above all they hone their skating skills at every opportunity. Without any condescension, author and director Jonah Hills captures the warmth and tenderness that teenagers can only find in kindred spirits. Truly a minor masterpiece.
